Angling

Coate Water Angling Information

Coate Water Country Park has a 56-acre freshwater fishing lake which can be fished between 16 June and 14 March (the fishing season).

You will need to obtain a fishing permit for the lake and also hold a National Rod Licence (please see below).

Day Tickets

Day tickets can be purchaesd on the bank. Set on an allocated fishing peg and a Ranger will come and collect your money for the day ticket.

24-hour Season Ticket

This is only available from the Angling Development Officer at The Rangers Centre, Coate Water Country Park, Marlborough Road, Swindon, SN3 6AA or telephone (01793) 490150. It should be noted that there are limited 24hr season tickets available and first preference goes to local residents. There is also a waiting list for these at present.

National Rod Licences

These are available from:

Every Post Office in England and Wales

The Telesales Service: 0870 1662 662 (for full and junior concessionary licences)

The Internet: (for full, junior concessions, 1 and 8-day licensces) through the Enviromental Agency website (www.environment-agency.gov.uk/subjects/fish/399730/?lang=_e).

Points to Remember

Children under 12 years of age do not require a rod fishing licence
Full and Concessionary rod licences expire on 31 March
Failure to provide a valid Environment Agency rod licence could result in prosecution (maximum fine £2,500)

Concessionary Licences

You qualify for a concessionary licence if:

You are aged 12-16 years inclusive
You are aged 65 years or over
You receive:
Long-term incapacity benefit, or
Short-term incapacity benefit (at the higher rate), or
Severe disablement allowance, or
A war pension which includes unemployability supplement

Applicants aged between 12 and 16 can obtain concessionary licences online (concessionary licences for eligible disabled and senior citizens are only available from the Post Office):
