The Fratellis

The Fratellis

The Fratellis

Thursday 4th December 2008

The Fratellis formed in March 2005, and wasted no time in becoming Scotland’s biggest export to the world. In no less than 2 years the Glaswegians had sold over a million copies of the Tony Hoffer (Beck, Air) produced debut album, ‘Costello Music’, in the UK alone. The peak of their achievements was picking up the Best British Breakthrough Gong at 2007 Brit Awards. An accolade the band is sincerely proud of as it was voted by listeners of BBC Radio 1.

It was a whirlwind 2 years in which they where labelled, ‘The best new band In Britain’ by The NME, and spent 3 weeks at no.2 when the album was first released in September 2006. No less than six months later they where playing a sold out national tour which included 4 nights at the historic Brixton Academy. So monumental where those shows that they were captured in full and released as a commemorative DVD ‘Edgy in Brixton’.

Costello Music gave birth to some of the most catchy, sing along anthem’s in recent times, the thunderous Creepin Up The Backstairs, the heartfelt Whistle For The Choir and the epic Chelsea Dagger, a song so grand it’s verve is echoed across every major sporting ground and stadium up and down the country.

Their songs strike a chord with the hearts and souls of most everyday people, evoking hope, Joy and love of good times. From Factory workers in Glasgow to Rock star Glitterati (Pete Townsend from The Who, performed with the lads at SXSW, Texas) their appeal is undeniable and real.

For the past couple of months the band have been locked away in their Glasgow studio recording the follow up to their 3x Platinum debut. The soul is the same with that unmistakable Fratellis glam sound, with a pinch of Led Zeppelin riffs and good old fashion Jerry Lee Lewis rock n roll.
