Sports Strategy

Swindon Sports Strategy

This Physical Activity and Sports Strategy has been prepared by Swindon Borough Council for the borough as a whole. The council has adopted a leadership role and is seeking to bring together the perspectives of many different organisations involved in physical activity, recreation and sport into one comprehensive strategy.

Consultation has produced a common vision that integrates the views of those agencies, large and small, who work so hard to offer quality experiences and who, in recognising that working in a co-ordinated and collaborative way can only result in more facilities, more opportunities and more enjoyment for all, have input their ideas and commitment.

It is intended that this should be a working 'live' document, revised as and when necessary, giving direction to Swindon Borough Council’s Recreation Service and its partners in sport. All individuals and agencies involved in the provision of, or participation in, physical activity and sport are urged to consider how they are able to contribute to the successful implementation of the strategy and how it can be further enhanced.

The case for increasing participation in physical activity and sport is compelling. A successful strategy will bring many benefits to Swindon and through encouraging positive participation will result in people being in better health - with the resulting reduced healthcare costs. It will be a key element in human development at all ages and help to build strong communities. Furthermore it will be seen to generate economic benefits and, most importantly, contribute to people’s quality of life.
