The Buteyko system is a safe, effective and drug free method of helping:
Buteyko (pronounced Bu-tay-ko) is most commonly used as a treatment for those with asthma and other breathing disorders.
It was developed in Russia in the 1950’s by a Russian doctor called Konstantin Buteyko, from whom the technique gets it’s name.
In 1981, the Russian authorities officially recognised the method as beneficial and approved it for use as a treatment for asthma throughout the former Soviet Union.
The results of three scientific trials in the West have shown that asthma suffers using the Buteyko system were able to significantly reduce their need for reliever inhalers.
One of the studies showed that good results could be achieved in only four weeks by simply issuing asthma suffers with a video about the Buteyko system.
Buteyko practitioners work as teachers, guiding you through learning breathing exercises and advising you on how to best manage your condition.
However without the dedication to practise by yourself you are much less likely to see improvement in your health. The good news us that by following the exercise programme the majority of people will be noticing a significant improvement in their condition within a few weeks.
At the moment few doctors in the UK have much experience of the Buteyko method. However qualified Buteyko practitioners emphasise that the techniques are designed to be complementary to medical treatment rather than alternative. The aim of Buteyko is to give people another option for managing their condition so that they feel healthier and experience fewer systems.
