Health and Fitness

Health and Fitness

The Health and Fitness pages detail all of the fitness classes available through our Recreation sites, from Aerobics to Yoga. Whatever you fitness interest we are sure we have something for you. All our fitness instructors are fully-qualified in their discipline to recognised standards - RSA or equivalent. Those who instruct Body Pump, Combat, Balance, Attack or RPM also hold Fitness Professional Body Training Systems qualifications. Most also hold full First Aid at Work certificates. So you are reassured you are in safe hands.

The Masters page, (formally known as 'young at heart') has been renamed to remove the restrictions associated with ageist stereotyping and provide more activity opportunities for those people who are not necessarily fifty, but whose needs differ from their younger counterparts. "Masters" implies skilled, mature, able and competent people. The Masters initiative is a way of helping people to carry on with physical activities they choose as long as possible.

The Junior Fitness page has information on the new inititive created by the Lifestyle Development Team, "Base Moves". Research shows that physical activity has many benefits for young people, our junior fitness programme helps combat inactivity, overweight and obesity levels.

The "Base Moves" project consists of various fitness activities for all age groups aiming to provide a strong foundation of fitness and skill provision from pre-school to adult life. Using exciting exercise and game formats children will experience a fitness-based workout, suitable for all levels of ability, where individuals can achieve personal success.

Our new walking programme invites people to join in our instructor led strolls around Swindon from three bases, County Ground Lifestyle Centre,Croft Sports Centre and the Link Centre. All Centres offer set routes that are planned well in advance to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience with a chance to meet new friends as well as raise your fitness level. The newly introduced County Ground walks are aimed at Women only.

The Weight Management page has details of our new course, at Dorcan Recreation Complex, that will help people to want to make diet and lifestyle changes.
