Accommodation Exchanges

Housing Accommodation Exchange

Swindon Borough Council has over 10,000 applicants on its housing register. With demand far outstripping supply, obtaining housing in Swindon is extremely difficult. For tenants of registered social landlords (other local authorities or housing associations usually) swapping your tenancy with another tenant is often the only way of moving around or into Swindon. In theory, a multiple exchange is possible and all applications will be considered within the council’s current policies and existing legislation.

Useful Exchange website

If you wish to consider exchanging, the Homeswapper website (www.homeswapper.co.uk) provides a range of information together with search and registration facilities. It is free to use for all Swindon Borough Council tenants.

Application to exchange

Tenants who have already found an exchange partner and want to apply to proceed, can apply by completing a form specifically designed for this purpose. Forms are available from the Estate Management team on 01793 464309/463288 or can be downloaded as a pdf file:

Application for an Exchange.pdf

All completed forms should be sent to:

Housing Department
Swindon Borough Council
Wat Tyler House East
Swindon
SN1 2JH.

Useful information

The Estate Management team has produced an information leaflet about exchanging, which we strongly recommend you read before applying for an exchange. If you wish to receive a leaflet please ring the team on the above telephone number or downloaded the form as a PDF file here:
