CCTV

CCTV

CCTV can play a vital role in crime prevention and detection as well as raising public confidence and feelings of safety.

Camera Locations

Housing currently has 295 cameras covering:

Monitoring

All our cameras are monitored 24 hours a day, 365 days per year; and our control room is staffed by Swindon Borough Council employees working in partnership with Wiltshire Police, the Crime and Disorder Team and local communities.

How CCTV Fits In With Other Improvements

CCTV works best as part of a package of improvements, and not in isolation - for example:

Aims

Our aim is to provide a CCTV system and control room which gives town-wide coverage monitoring, open space, buildings, other assets and security for our staff.

Service Structure

The service provides monitoring for:

The co-ordination of the relevant response service is provided through the control room and a weighted response deployed to incidents.

Through this unique partnership and close inter-agency working, the control room has and will continue to successfully target hot spots across the housing estates, the town and specific crimes and issues.

Benefits

CCTV can play a vital role in crime prevention and detection as well as raising public confidence and feelings of safety.

This will result in financial savings to the borough and to the housing revenue account and other public sector partners, improved public reassurance, and a public deterrent to those who commit crime and use anti social behaviour.
