Payment Methods

Council Tax - Payment Methods

Payment can be made by any of the following means:

Direct Debit via a Bank or Building Society

Direct Debit is Swindon Borough Council's preferred method of payment. Direct Debit is an automated method of paying your bills. Swindon Borough Council will arrange for your bank or building society to transfer your payments directly to Swindon Borough Council.

Why change to Direct Debit?

There are a number of good reasons to use the Direct Debit payment method:

The Direct Debit Guarantee

The Direct Debit Guarantee is offered by all banks and building societies that take part in the Direct Debit scheme. The efficiency and security of the scheme is monitored and protected by your own bank or building society. The key points to remember are:

If you currently pay by any other method and wish to change to Direct Debit, you must complete a Direct Debit instruction and return it to Swindon Borough Council's Council Tax Section.

Pay Online

You can pay online using a secure payments facility. To make a payment on line, please visit the Council Tax - Online Payments page.

By Post

Please send your payment, with the appropriate slip from the payment vouchers sheet, to:

Please write your account number on the reverse of your cheque. Cheques should be made payable to ‘Swindon Borough Council’. (Please do not send cash through the post.) Receipts will only be issued if requested.

At a Post Office

Post Office payments can only be made by cash and only with a Council Tax Post Office Payment Card. If you do not have a Payment Card and require one to pay at the Post Office please contact us.

In Person

Payment can be made in person Monday to Friday 9.00am-4.30pm at the Cashiers Office

Online Council Tax Payment

You can now pay your Council Tax using Swindon Borough Council's secure Online Payments system. For further information, and to make an online payment, please follow the Pay Council Tax Online link to the right of this page.
