Attachments to Income

Council Tax - Attachments to Earnings and Deductions from Income Support

If a Liability Order has been obtained, and if you are employed, we can 'attach your earnings'. This means that we will ask your employer to take Council Tax from your salary and pay it directly to us.

The amount we can deduct from your salary will depend on how much you earn, but it starts at about 13% of your net pay every month.

Your employer will continue to take payments until you have settled your outstanding debt.

By law, your employer must comply with the Attachment of Earnings Order and may be prosecuted and fined up to £2000 if they do not.

If you are on Income Support, we can apply to the Department of Work and Pensions for amounts to be taken from your Income Support.

We can only apply for these deductions if we feel that this is the most appropriate action to take.

Further Information

You should contact us if you have any questions about Attachment of Earnings or Deductions for Income Support.
