The Swindon Borough Local Plan was adopted in July 2006. It provides a policy framework to 2011.

The Local Plan was adopted under the transitional arrangements of the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004 for a period of three years ending on 19th July 2009. The Borough Council applied to the Secretary of State to save some of the policies within the Local Plan for a further period until such time they are replaced by the Swindon Core Strategy and the Site Allocations Development Plan Documents. Saved Policies

Some of the policies within the Local Plan have been superceded by the Central Area Action Plan which was adopted in February 2009.
