Waste Development Framework

Waste Development Framework

The Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act, 2004 requires that County Councils and Unitary Authorities prepare a Waste Development Framework (WDF). Swindon Borough Council is preparing a WDF jointly with Wiltshire Council, which will comprise:

Waste Core Strategy

In July 2009, Wiltshire Council and Swindon Borough Council adopted the Waste Core Strategy Development Plan Document (DPD). The Waste Core Strategy sets out the spatial vision, key objectives and overall principles for the development of sustainable waste management facilities up to 2026.

Waste Development Control Policies

In September 2009, Wiltshire Council and Swindon Borough Council adopted the Waste Development Control Policies Development Plan Document (DPD). The role of this document is to provide greater detail in terms of policies to control and direct the development of new or expanded waste treatment facilities.

Minerals and Waste Development Plans

Waste Site Allocations

Wiltshire Council and Swindon Borough Council are in the process of preparing a Waste Site Allocations DPD. The purpose of this document is to identify a list of sites that the Councils consider will be required in order to to meet the forecasts of demand for new waste management capacity set out in the adopted Waste Core Strategy (July 2009). To assist the process of preparing this document an additional period of consultation is being undertaken, this consultation runs until 17th March 2010. To assist the Councils with the process of justifying each site proposal consultants have been appointed to undertake a series of detailed environmental assessments. It is expected that this work work will be completed by the end of April 2010 and will be used to support the 'pre-submission' publication document.
