Mineral Development Framework

Minerals Development Framework

The Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act, 2004. requires that County Councils and Unitary Authorities prepare a Minerals Development Framework (MDF). Swindon Borough Council is preparing an MDF jointly with Wiltshire Council, which will comprise:

Minerals Core Strategy

In July 2009, Wiltshire Council and Swindon Borough Council adopted the Minerals Core Strategy Development Plan Document (DPD). The Minerals Core Strategy sets out a spatial vision, key objectives and overall principles for development covering minerals provision up to 2026.

Minerals and Waste Development Plans

Minerals Development Control Policies

In September 2009 Wiltshire Council and Swindon Borough Council adopted the Minerals Development Control Policies Development Plan Document (DPD). The role of this document is to provide greater detail in terms of policies to control and direct minerals development.

Minerals and Waste Development Plans

Minerals Site Allocations

The Aggregate Minerals Site Allocations DPD is at an early stage of preparation. The Councils have been working on a number of projects designed to help identify a 'long-list' of potential sites for future sand and gravel production. One of these projects involved contacting landowners in mineral bearing parts of Wiltshire and Swindon seeking sites to be promoted for inclusion in the Plan. This excercise has lead to a range of sites comming forward. These sites and those promoted by the minerals industry will now be appraised using the Minerals Site Assesment Methodology for inclusion in a document for informal consultation - currently anticipated for the end of April 2010.
