We are currently undertaking a Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA), which seeks to identify potential housing capacity sites and assess whether such sites are deliverable or developable for housing. This information is used as evidence to demonstrate a 5-year supply of housing on deliverable sites and a supply of developable sites for longer term. The SHLAA will form a technical evidence base within the Local Development Framework (LDF) and inform the Submission Draft of the Core Strategy and the development of the Site Allocations Development Plan Document (DPD).
The purpose of the SHLAA is to provide an assessment of housing land availability, and the identification of sites should not be taken as representing either an intention to allocate these sites for housing, or as material planning consideration in the determination of a planning application. .
A draft SHLAA methodology went out to for public consultation from 11 April to 23 May 2008 together with a call to developers and the wider public for potential housing sites and potential sites for alternative land uses. We will be undertaking site surveys over the summer and assessing the suitability, availability and achievability of sites for housing. The findings of the SHLAA will be presented ata stakeholder meeting and a final SHLAA report will be published for consultation. Representations in respect of the SHLAA report will be considered as part of the Site Allocations Development Plan Document (DPD) process.
