1. Some businesses that are on your website are not displaying their scores are they allowed not to?
Yes. At present we have no powers to make businesses display their 'Scores on Doors' certificate, however this is likely to change when a national scheme is launched.
2. Some businesses have no rating on your website. Why is this?
The rating scheme only started in April 2007, so if the business has not been inspected since then, they will not appear yet. Low risk premises are not included.
3. I have been to a food business that you have rated at four Swindon Stars, yet I felt the food was poor/the hygiene looked poor/ I wasn’t happy with the service/food. What can I do to complain?
In the first instance we recommend that you report your concerns to the food business direct so that they are given an opportunity to put things right. If you are unhappy with their response or think there is a serious food safety issue, then please Contact the Safety and Food Team.
4. I don’t understand how the Swindon Stars are allocated. What is the score based on?
The scores are based on a risk rating system devised primarily by the Food Standards Agency (FSA). For a detailed explanation please see: Legal Matters.
5. Is the Swindon Stars scheme the same as AA stars or Michelin stars?
No. The criteria for Swindon Stars is based on food safety and hygiene of the premise combined with the ability of the management to comply with the law and manage the safety of the food they supply. It does not give any indication of culinary reputation or customer service.
6. Are the inspection report forms available for public scrutiny?
They are not on the website because scanning the paperwork would be a big expense and would need constant updating. The Swindon 'Scores On Doors' scheme is a summarised version, easily accessible and free of charge. A Freedom of Information request can be made if you wish (please see: Freedom of Information).
