Scores on Doors

Scores on Doors

Introduction to the Scheme

Swindon Borough Council operates a 'Scores on Doors' initiative, where food businesses are awarded stars showing how well they comply with food safety legislation. The scheme is based directly on the risk assessment that is carried out by law during a food inspection.

Following on from the Freedom of Information Act, the Council has taken this positive step to provide this information in an easily-understood format.

The 'Scores on Doors' pages in this website explain how the scheme is operated, what the stars mean, and how we calculate the food hygiene risk rating.

Star Ratings

The Star Ratings were introduced from 1 April 2007. Only premises inspected since that date are included in the Scores on Doors scheme.

The spreadsheet which previously contained the Star Ratings has now been replaced with a new system called Public Access. This is a real time system - as soon as a Star Rating has been approved, it is available for viewing.

In addition, you can now search for premises by trading name or street and additional details, such as the premise registration, are also available.

Important: before viewing the ratings, please see the disclaimer; then follow the link (below).

To learn more about what the stars mean, see: Food Hygiene Award and Jargon Busting.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) pages will answer the majority of questions regarding the scheme from both a customers and businesses perspective. Please see:

See also 'Further Information' at the bottom of this page for links to various related downloadable documents.

If you have any questions that are not covered in the FAQ section please Contact the Safety and Food Team.

Swindon Borough Council Food Safety Disclaimer

The information and premises data on this website has been collated by Swindon Borough Council’s authorised Environmental Health Officers and suitably qualified Food Enforcement Officers during the course of their primary food hygiene inspections in line with the Food Safety Act 1990, the Food Hygiene (England) Regulations 2006, the European Communities and their regulations and the Food Standards Agency’s Code of Practice.

The premises data on this website is regularly updated to display information based on the last primary food hygiene inspection carried out by Environmental Health Officers employed by Swindon Borough Council and as such it refers to circumstances and conditions observed/discovered on the day of that inspection. It should be understood that the information contained in these pages may not be representative of the long term or typical food hygiene standards of a business and should not be used as an evaluation or guide to food safety or food quality.
