Food Safety

Food Safety

The team is responsible for carrying out regular inspections of all food businesses. The frequency is determined by the type of business and how well food safety is managed.

We also carry out a programme of microbiological sampling to check the hygiene standards of the food which is being prepared or sold in the borough.

Food Premises Registration

Virtually all food businesses must register with their local council and ensure that the details of their registration, eg: name of the business, proprietor and manager, are kept up-to-date.

The registration form is available in the following formats:

PDF Version - Register Food Business Establishment

Online Version - Register Food Business Establishment

Enforcement Policy

The team follows a clear and staged approach to enforcement of the legal requirements.

See: our Enforcement Policy

Food Complaints

We also investigate complaints about food which has been purchased and found to be unsatisfactory, for example because it contains something it shouldn’t.

Often you can deal with these complaints directly with the retailer or caterer, but if it is more serious then you can Contact Us and we can advise on what action can be taken.

Food Hazard Warnings

For current food hazard warnings, please check Food Standards Agency website.Any warnings affecting Swindon area, a press release will be issued. If you want more information please contact us.
