Requirements and Conditions
Buildings often fall into disuse or disrepair and are demolished to either make way for new development or to remove a danger or eyesore.
If you intend to demolish a building over 50M³ you must notify us in writing giving at least six weeks notice. We have a form you can use for this. You should also copy the notification to all the public utilities and any adjoining owners. If it is a dwelling house or flat you must also notify our Development Control Section.
We will issue a ‘Section 81 Notice’ that contains requirements and conditions specifying how the demolition should be undertaken. This notice will also be copied to the utility companies as they also may have requirements to impose on you and they may need access to the site to isolate the services.
