Eligibility
Pupils are entitled to free school lunches if their parents or carers receive:
- Income Support; (or Guaranteed Pension Credit for over 60 years)
- Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
- Child Tax Credit, (but not Working Tax Credit) and who have a yearly taxable income of less that of £15,575
- Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
Please check with your child’s school if you think you may be entitled to free school lunches.
Claiming free school lunches means that:
- Your child can have a free healthy meal at lunchtime
- Your child can take part in the social experience of eating with fellow pupils and staff
- Your child can learn about different food
- You save money
- Your children are entitled to free lodging and board for UK residential trips
Why should my child have school lunches?
It is important that children have a meal at lunchtime because:
- Well-presented food at school can help children and young people learn more about food and healthy lifestyles
- Eating and drinking enough helps children to concentrate and do well in their lessons
- Lunch is an important part of a child’s intake of nutrients for growth and development
