Child Protection Statement

We, at The Children's Nursery, are committed to providing an environment where every child can enjoy the right to live its life free from harm or abuse or potential harm or abuse.

The responsibility for promoting, developing and monitoring child protection within The Children's Nursery rests with the designated person (currently The Business Manager) and the management team. At all times staff will remember that child protection is a matter that needs to be dealt with sensitively and in confidence.

As a condition of employment all staff who work at the nursery will be checked by the Criminal Records Bureau. Students, visitors and volunteers will not be left alone with the children. To safeguard staff from potential allegations of abuse whenever possible they will not be left alone with the children, although there may be times when this will be unavoidable.

We will use the Local Safeguarding Children's Board Policy, Procedures and Guidance to further support us in the operation of our child protection policy.

Our aims:

• To ensure staff are aware of the signs of potential or actual abuse
• To provide training to enable staff to be confident in dealing with a potential or actual abuse situation
• To provide procedures for staff to follow in order that the correct steps can be taken in a potential or actual abuse situation
• To advise staff of the name of the designated person and their role and responsibilities
• To inform parents/carers about our child protection policy and procedures so that they are aware of how we will deal with any situations that may occur
• To provide procedures to be followed should an allegation of child abuse of a child in the care of the nursery be made about any member of staff
• To provide suitable training for staff to ensure they are aware of their own behaviours and any potential that they may have to deal with a child or children in a manner that could be perceived as abusive
