CitizenCard

Trading Standards - CitizenCard

Do you need to prove your age?

Do you need to check the age of someone?

What is CitizenCard?

CitizenCard is a national proof of age card scheme accepted in shops, cinemas, pubs and anywhere else people may need to prove their age.

The Government, the Health Authority, Schools, the Police and retailers are just a few of those who support the CitizenCard Scheme both locally and nationally.  Over 15,000 CitizenCards have already been issued to young people in Swindon.

Each CitizenCard contains a laser etched photograph of the applicant, their name and date of birth. The age bracket into which they fall when the card is issued is also prominently displayed beneath the photograph. Each card now contains a Proof of Age Standards Scheme (PASS) hologram making CitizenCard even more secure and the first Home Office accredited proof of age card in the UK.

Who can apply and how much does it cost?

Anyone of any age can apply for a CitizenCard using an independent application form. Swindon Borough Council can provide one CitizenCard FREE of CHARGE through the Rolling School Programme. There is a fee of £9 for all other applications.

What age brackets are available?

The card is issued in four age brackets:

Are there any other costs?

The date on which the cardholder reaches the next age bracket is also displayed allowing the card to continue to be used past the displayed age bracket.  It does not become invalid. However should you wish to renew your card when the time comes there is a fee of £5.

If you lose your CitizenCard there is a replacement fee of £10.

Guarantee

CitizenCard is registered under the Data Protection Act and guarantee that they will NOT pass on any of the cardholder’s details to any other organisation or body.

We guarantee that for Swindon residents, CitizenCard will only ever be used as a proof of age card and will not be used for any other purpose.

CitizenCard verify the details on every single independent application form. Swindon Borough Council verify the details on the school application forms.
