Prior to your special day, we will ask to meet with you to determine your wishes and to clarify the events that you would like to take place. We will try to cater for all your wishes and to make your wedding as personal as possible.
Gone are the days when a civil ceremony meant standing in front of a desk. There are options available for you to have the sort of ceremony you wish - ranging from a simple marriage with just two witnesses, to the inclusion of bridesmaids or the bride being escorted into the marriage with music and readings of your choice. For the music and readings, however, the law requires that there is no religious content.
There will be someone to greet you on arrival at the Civic Offices and show you the way to the Marriage Waiting Room. There, the details that are to appear in the marriage register will be checked with you. You may be interviewed separately if you do not wish to see each other before the ceremony.
When these formalities have been completed, a range of options exists for the wedding ceremony. For example, the bride and groom may enter together when the guests have assembled, or the groom and his best man can enter first with the guests leaving the bride to enter with an escort, with or without attendants, or alone. We will work with you to help you decide on the best and most suitable arrangements for you.
The Superintendent Registrar or a deputy will conduct the marriage ceremony. After a brief introduction, the ceremony will proceed with the bride and groom being asked to repeat solemn declarations.
