The New Swindon Company

The New Swindon Company

Transforming Swindon Town Centre

The New Swindon Company’s mission is to facilitate the sustainable physical and economic regeneration of the town centre of Swindon. Building on a solid bedrock of a town that already enjoys the advantage of excellent rail and road networks and has a number of significant companies represented, the company is to co-ordinate a substantial development programme. The Company is key to implementing the strategy detailed in the South West regional strategy to deliver the vision through the regeneration of the town’s central area.

Seven zones have been identified as regeneration areas across Swindon's town centre. Each will be redeveloped to provide a focus for investment such as the high quality accommodation planned at The Exchange. This centre will also encompass a new bus terminus and hotel in a £300m investment with development of the site beginning in early 2007.

Cultural Advancement

The New Swindon Company plan for the Arena and The Promenade to create a town centre fit for a prosperous town with a diverse community brings identifies important amenities such as new library and gallery to be added to new shops and town centre apartments. There are great efforts being made to add to the cultural and entertainment attractions in the town centre. The new Central Library is a major £10m project that will provide the focal point for the regeneration of Swindon town centre. And there are also ambitions to create a new art gallery to house the highly regarded Swindon Civic.

Elsewhere, North Star village will be a vibrant neighbourhood emerging right on the doorstep of the town centre. The Campus nearby will provide a modern integrated setting for business and leisure.
