Whitecross Club
An evening social club for adults to meet up with their friends. There are a number of activities including snooker, darts, table top games and having a chat. It is a member only club which meets in Highworth on Wednesday evenings from 7pm -9pm.
Volunteers bring members to the club using their own transport. They then stay for the evening supporting the members who have a learning disability and at the end of the evening, take them home again for which petrol can be claimed.
Discos
We have a club running at the London Street Nightclub for adults with a learning disability. Currently running once every 3 weeks from 7pm-1Opm on a Monday evening. As a volunteer you may be asked to help to take money at the door, to help in the cloakroom with the coats, to supervise and provide some assistance during the disco session as well as befriending and encouraging social interaction. A few of our members need assistance purchasing drinksfrom the bar.
Saturday Club
This is a small get-together for adult members who have learning and physical disabilities. Parents accompany theirrson or daughter during the session which is a 3 to 4 hour session usually between 12-4pm, but this may vary. Our members need help to participate in all our activities.Volunteers are needed to assist the session workers who organise a timetable to provide a variety of activities. Session workers are experienced carers and know the members very well, so they can give volunteers excellent support and guidance. We also aim to provide some sessions where parents can go out shopping or just have a break.
Other Activities
Other activities are being considered and willbe organised to match the interests of individual volunteers such as individual befriending, a sitting service, trips to the theatre, swimming, pictures, bowling, pub, etc., in small groups or individually with volunteer support.
