Emergency Duty Service

The Emergency Duty Service is an out-of-office-hours service for social work emergencies throughout Swindon at night, weekends and bank holidays.

Tel: 01793 436699

What do We do?

We provide an emergency social work service for Swindon outside office hours, at night, weekends and bank holidays.

We are here to help with urgent individual or family problems that require immediate social work attention.

What Sort of Problems?

  • Children in need of protection
  • Immediate concerns about children
  • Acute mental health problems
  • Older people at risk
  • Immediate concerns about a person with a learning or physical disability

Where difficulties about housing and money matters arise we can put you in touch with other agencies that may be able to help.

Who Can Phone Us?

Anyone can phone us: individuals or their families, friends or carers, and staff working for statutory or voluntary agencies.

What Happens Next?

The Emergency Duty Service is staffed by senior social workers who are experienced at working with crisis situations. If the worker is busy, leave a message and they will call you back as soon as possible.

We can give information and advice over the phone to help you through a crisis. If we think that you need to contact another organisation, we will help you get in touch with them. We regularly liaise with our daytime colleagues and often receive information from them about social work plans. We will also pass information to them for further action if it is needed.

We try to help you sort things out over the phone. However, if a visit is necessary we will do our best to offer this service.
