Naomi House Children's Hospice

Naomi House ... Serving Swindon

Naomi House is the only local children’s hospice for central southern England and serves the people of Swindon and Wiltshire. It opened in 1997 to provide residential palliative care, including respite and terminal care, for children with life limiting conditions which mean they will die before they grow up.

It also provides bereavement care and support to parents, brothers or sisters in coping before, when and after the child dies.

Naomi House makes no charge for the support it gives so that any help can be provided to all that need it. Neither does it receive any Government funding to support it's work. Instead it relies on voluntary donations to meet running costs, which are approaching £2.5 million per annum. Without these vital contributions there would be no hospice.

Children's Hospice Week and Open Days 2005

Over the period September 23rd, 24th and 25th, the hospice will open its doors to visitors. Everyone is invited to attend, so why not go along and visit them on those days.

Open days only happen once a year, and it's a chance for everyone who supports the hospice to go along and learn more about the essential work being done to support the children and families at a time when they need it most. Not only will you get the chance to see inside the house and the "Helping Hands" collage, but you will also be able to attend the Naomi House fete, which will be full of fun and games to entertain the whole family.

The house will be open from 10am to 4pm on Friday 23rd and Saturday 24th September ... and from 11am to 4pm on Sunday, 25th September.

Join the Helping Hands Appeal

The idea is to create your own handprint and then send it to Naomi House for use in a giant handprint collage that will be created during the open days.

The handprint can be made using paint to make it colourful, by drawing around the outline of your hand to keep it simple, by using the photocopier to reveal your true personality or, for the really lazy, by simply downloading the hand from the Naomi House website (www.naomihouse.org.uk/what/week.html).

Then, simply, add your name, club, society or company logo if appropriate and any special message you wish and send it to us. It really doesn’t matter what method you choose as long as you have fun doing it.

Of course, the hospice is hoping to raise money as well and suggest £1 a finger or thumb to make £5 a hand! A quid a digit would wonderful, but really any donation would be great.

Through the appeal it is hoped to raise enough to pay for five days of care at the Hospice as well as creating an “artwork” on a major scale.

Please do try and get as many of your friends and colleagues as possible to join in with what should be a great fun thing to do and also support a really worthwhile cause.
