Disabled Facilities Grants

Extension to houseDisabled Facilities Grants can assist in making the home of a person with a disability more suitable to live in, and help them manage more independently in their home.

This web page provides information on how Swindon Borough Council can make these grants available to you and the procedures involved.

If you are registered or eligible to be registered as a disabled person, you can apply for a Disabled Facilities Grant.

This applies if you are an owner-occupier, a tenant (including a Housing Association or Council tenant in certain cases), or a landlord applying on behalf of your tenant. If you have a disabled person living in your home, you can also apply for a grant on their behalf.

If you have received this leaflet it is likely that you are awaiting an assessment by an Occupational Therapist employed by Swindon Borough Council. You may have been referred by your Doctor or other health professional, your family or even by yourself. The assessment, when made, will identify whether provision of equipment or adaptations to your home might enable you to manage more independently and safely. This leaflet explains the procedures and time scales involved, including any financial assistance which may be available to you. Although the procedure may appear complicated you will receive support and assistance throughout.

(The information contained in these web pages is also available in a printed brochure and in other formats. For further details see: General Information.)
