Lydiard Park is a beautiful historic parkland on the western edge of Swindon. The Palladian house, restored 18th Century Walled Garden, 260 acre parkland and children’s play area offer something for everyone, all year round. With a programme of special events and the changing nature of the seasons, there’s always something new and exciting for all the family to enjoy on a visit here.
The stunning snowdrops are now out, creating a beautiful white carpet in the woodlands surrounding Lydiard House. This lovely, natural spectacle should last for a several more weeks and is a welcome sign that spring is just around the corner! It shouldn’t be long before the bulbs will blossom in the Walled Garden with elegant displays of rare tulip varieties, daffodils, hyacinths and Crown Imperials.
Inside Lydiard House, a fascinating new display of embroidery, created by members of the Great Western Embroiderers Guild, opens on Saturday 27 March.
Taking their inspiration from our collections in Lydiard House, St Mary’s Church, the Walled Garden and Park, the Guild have produced an intriguing display of traditional, complex and unusual embroidery pieces, which will include amazing embroidered insects and flowers.
You can see the Keeping Lydiard in Stitches display in the state rooms of the Lydiard House until Friday 30 April.
