Coate Water Angling Information

Coate Water Country Park has a 56 acre freshwater fishing lake which can be fished between 16 June – 14 March (Fishing season). To fish the lake you will need to obtain a fishing permit for the lake and also hold a National Rod License. Information on the different types of fishing permits available and how to obtain a National Rod License are shown below.

Day Ticket

A day ticket can be purchaesd on the bank. All you need to do is set on an allocated fishing peg and a Ranger will come and collect your money for the day ticket. The cost of a day ticket is as follows:

Non Swindon Card £6.50

Swindon Card  £5.00

Concession 1£3.30

Concession 2 £1.70

Day Season Ticket

This can be purchased by application to the Angling Development Officer at The Rangers Centre, Coate Water Country Park, Marlborough Road, Swindon, SN3 6AA or telephone (01793) 490150.  Application forms are available from the Activity Centre. The cost of a day season ticket is as follows:

Non Swindon Card  £43.00

Swindon Card  £33.10

Concession 1 £21.50

Concession 2 £10.80

24-hour Season Ticket

This is only available from the Angling Development Officer at The Rangers Centre, Coate Water Country Park, Marlborough Road, Swindon, SN3 6AA or telephone (01793) 490150.  It should be noted that there are limited 24hr season tickets available and first preference goes to local residents. There is also a waiting list for these at present. The cost of a 24hr season ticket is as follows:

Non Swindon Card  £465.00

Swindon Card £358.00

Concession 1 £232.50

Concession 2 £116.25

Where can I get a National Rod License?

Rod fishing licenses are available from:

  • Every Post Office in England and Wales
  • The Telesales Service: 0870 1662 662 (for full and junior concessionary licenses)
  • The Internet: (for full, junior concessions, 1 and 8-day licenses)

through the enviromental agency

Points to remember

Children under 12 years of age do not require a rod fishing licence.

Full and Concessionary rod licences expire on 31 March

Failure to provide a valid Environment Agency rod licence could result in prosecution (maximum fine £2,500)

Concessionary Licences

You are eligible for a concessionary licence if:

  • You are aged 12 to 16 inclusive
  • You are aged 65 years or over
  • You receive:
  1. Long-term incapacity benefit
  2. Short-term incapacity benefit (at the higher rate)
  3. Severe disablement allowance
  4. A war pension which includes unemployability supplement

Please note, only applicants aged between 12 and 16 can obtain concessionary licences on-line at present. Concessionary Licences for eligible disabled and senior citizens are only available from the Post Office.
