Event Safety

Temporary Event Notices

Registering for a temporary event notice is not the same as applying for permission. You are simply telling us what you plan to do (although under extreme circumstances the Police can put forward a crime objection).

When you fill out the on-screen application, a confirmation e-mail will be sent back to you, with a copy of the completed form. That is all you need. You will hear nothing further from us, unless there is a Police objection. We will pass your application to the Police, to save you having to do that. Remember to have your National Insurance number handy. Without that, you will not be able to complete the form.

Limits

There are some limits. If you do not give a full 10 working days notice, you cannot go ahead with whatever you planned. Your application will automatically fail. Most people and organisations are limited to submitting five notices in a calendar year but personal licence holders (probably people running leisure businesses) can submit up to 50.

Only small events can be covered by a temporary event notice. This means up to 499 people, but that includes people like bar staff, performers etc. In common with most authorities, we accept notices for a beer tent or bar enclosure up to that capacity, as long as nobody is allowed to leave the enclosure taking alcohol with them.

There are some complicated place limits. Only 12 notices can be used but they can cover up to 15 days in total. Any temporary event notice can cover a period up to 96 hours, so a single notice could, for example, allow a folk festival with a bar on Friday and a film show without a bar on Sunday, with different people attending each.

Fees

The fee is £21 for any duration but there must be a gap of at least 24 hours between one notice and the next. Remember that if you start at eight in the evening and go through until one in the morning, that takes two days out of your quota!

Application Forms and Payments

Please complete the online form. When you have finished, you will be asked for payment. Pop-up window blockers may disrupt the payment screen and it may also open up behind the confirmation window:

If you have any difficulties, please use the online form but send us a cheque.
