Leisure Services

Leisure Services Team - What We Do

The Leisure Services Team works in partnership with Wiltshire and Swindon County Sports Partnership, Great Western Community Forest, Sport England, Active Swindon, businesses, schools, sports clubs and their governing bodies, Swindon Primary Care Trust, CTC and other agencies to develop the delivery of local sport and physical activity opportunities for the whole community.

Since the last national Active People survey in 05/06, the team has contributed towards a 3.6% increase in adult participation in sport and active recreation across Wiltshire, making the county one of only nine in England to show an increase above the 1% national target. Swindon has performed particularly well demonstrating that local effective partnership working across a wide range of sectors (including health and the voluntary and community sector) is resulting in securing funding and increasing opportunities for participation in sport and active recreation.

Services on offer include:

  • Challenge Swindon - 'More Active, More Often' inspirational events
    • Festival of Sport
    • Get Active Month
    • Parachallenge - disability event
    • Swindon Half Marathon, Multi Terrain and Fun Run
    • Mobile Road Show to promote opportunities and raise awareness of the benefits of physical activity
