Masters 50+ Programme

Masters logoMasters is a range of activities aimed specifically at the mature adult and those who require sessions tailored to meet their specific needs.

The Masters initiative is a way of helping people to carry on with the physical activity they choose for as long as possible.

Our activities are delivered weekly across all ten of our centres. Outreach classes are also available.

We offer 25 great activities including exercise classes, dancing, sport sessions, swimming, health sessions and walking. There is something for everyone.

Everybody 60 and over will be entitled to swim for free at published public swimming sessions at any of our pools. The scheme is part of a national campaign to promote swimming, general fitness, more active lifestyles and well-being.
For more information see Free 60 and Over Swimming.

Masters Keep Active Wallchart and Grading System

Our new Masters Keep Active Wallchart is available at all of the Council's Recreation sites. We run a comprehensive range of activities for all abilities - so come along and give one a go!

We have simplified our activity grading system:

  • The number (ranging from 1-2) focuses on the intensity of the class. However, multi-level teaching is applied to all classes which enables all participants to work at their own level.
  • The letter focuses on the complexity of the class. It describes how complicated the class is in relation to the choreography and level of co-ordination required. All instructors will offer alternatives and multi-level teaching techniques enabling participants to work at their own level.
