Athletics Track - County Ground Lifestyle Centre

Junior hurdle practiceThe floodlit athletic track was built and completed in 1985 and in 2003 a fence was placed around the track making it completely enclosed and secure.

Track Profile

400m, six-lane, eight-lane straight.

The track surface is a polyurethane rubber crumb and was built by Balsam. The track used to be known as the Thamesdown Track, as that was the previous name of the Council. A key to the facility and changing rooms is available from the County Ground Lifestyle Centre. The track holds a certificate to allow full athletic events to be held.

County Ground Athletics Track layout

The local athletics club is the Swindon Harriers. It has over 500 members from the age of seven years to 50 + years. The club's senior men compete in the British League. The club holds an open house club night each Wednesday evening from 6.30pm to 7.30pm, where anyone interested in athletics can come along and have a go at all the different events.

Swindon Borough Council and Swindon Harriers have a close working partnership in athletics development in the Swindon area. The Athletics Development Team also work closely with both primary and senior schools in the Swindon area, running indoor athletic sessions and helping out at sports days to raise the profile of the sport.
