Active Swindon

Active Swindon LogoActive Swindon is a 3 year lottery funded project whose aim is to increase the physical activity participation rates of residents of Swindon, Shrivenham and parts of North Wiltshire by 1% per annum. This is a national target for participation working towards 50% of the population being physically active by 2020 at a level which will have health benefits. The project is delivered as a partnership between the Swindon Primary Care Trust (PCT), Swindon Borough Council (SBC) and the Great Western Community Forest (GWCF).

Target group

We particularly want to target people who do not exercise to the recommended levels to improve health i.e. 5x30 minutes for adults (7 x 60 minutes for children) per week. If you would like some advice, information or support to help you lead a healthier lifestyle, through being more active, please contact the Active Swindon team using the feedback form - (Opens in a separate window)

Our objectives are to:

  1. To deliver a range of innovative, outreach sport and physical activity programmes, focusing particularly on identified target neighbourhoods and groups, which will engage people in physical activity on a long term basis by removing or overcoming barriers which currently prevent people from participation.
  2. To create a physical activity and sporting culture in Swindon.
  3. To ensure residents are aware of the benefits and importance of physical activity to their quality of life.
  4. To develop a partnership between public, private and voluntary sector organisations which will steer the physical activity agenda in Swindon.
  5. To have a co-ordinated information service to ensure residents know where and how physical activity and sport programmes can be accessed
