Swindon Museum and Art Gallery - School Visits

On this page: Information about projects undertaken by children from swindon Schools who have visited Swindon Museum and Art Gallery.

Monsters and Beasts Project

Over 140 five to seven year old children from Lethbridge School in Old Town Swindon created monsters and beasts in the Art Gallery, taking inspiration from 'Jake and Dinos Chapman: My Colouring Book' exhibition and Maurice Sendak's 'Where the Wild Beasts Art'.

The session combined storytelling, drama and drawing. The children played picture consequences to create fantastic beasts and designed their very own monsters in chalk, charcoal and pastels. Each session finished with a 'wild rumpus'!

Sessions like this one are designed around school-based themes. We also have off-the-shelf sessions on art, the Egyptians and Romans.

A Teacher's View

Catherine Lynn-Jones, a teacher from Lethbridge School, said, "It was superb! The children were engaged from start to finish. We will be able to build on the work in our Literacy lessons. Fantastic!"
