How do I apply for a work placement with Swindon Borough Council?
In order to register your interest, please complete the online Register of Interest Form or download a copy and return to Human Resources, 5th Floor Brunel Tower, Canal Walk, Swindon, SN1 1LH.
On receipt of your form, Human Resources will endeavour to source a suitable placement for you. You will be notified of the outcome within 10 working days. For further details, please see the Arranging a Work Placement page.
If successful, you will be contacted by Human Resources or by the relevant department. In most cases, you will be asked to attend an informal interview. The purpose of this interview is to give you the opportunity to see the work environment and to find out more about the placement before you start. It also enables the supervisor to prepare a worthwhile programme for you.
Do I get paid whilst on a work placement with Swindon Borough Council?
No. No payment is made whilst on a work placement.
Will I be expected to work the same hours as other staff?
For all work placements, the numbers of hours worked is generally for agreement by the Council and all those who are involved in arranging the work placement. Unless there are strong reasons to the contrary, it is recommended that ‘under 16’s’ should not be asked to work more than a standard working day – 7 hours and 24 minutes. Agreement on the working hours will be made before the commencement of any placement.
Will my lunch be provided?
No. You will be expected to provide your own lunch. The facilities available depend on where you placement is located.
What sort of clothes am I expected to wear?
This depends on your placement. You will be advised on appropriate clothing at the interview stage.
Am I insured whilst on a placement with Swindon Borough Council?
You are covered by the Council’s Employer’s Liability Insurance and also the Council’s Public Liability Insurance.
