Advice for taxi passengers

We take any complaint about licensed drivers, vehicles and operators very seriously and carry out a thorough investigation in each case. All complaints should be made in writing, preferably on the customer comment form below. You should include as much detail as possible (who, what, when, where, why) and include the driver's badge number and/or vehicle plate number or registration number. We are especially interested in knowing about unlicensed drivers working in the borough, and are working with the local police to stop this.

We do not employ Hackney Carriage or Private Hire drivers - most are self-employed.

Have you received excellent service from a Hackney Carriage or Private Hire driver or operator? Have they gone that extra mile? We'd be pleased to hear about this. Just complete the customer comments form (PDF) and return to us.

Fares

Hackney Carriage fares are set by the council and a fare chart should be carried in each licensed Hackney Carriage.

Fares are based on three elements:

  • The time of day
  • The time taken to complete the journey
  • The length of journey

Fares charged by Private Hire vehicles are not controlled by the council and you are advised to agree a fare with the operator when booking your journey.
