Housing

Free Support Service For Older People

“To assist with any housing related issues affecting a person’s tenancy or ability to remain independent in their own home.”

The Support Worker, who is employed by Swindon Borough Council, can provide free confidential advice and support to tenants who are aged over 55 about a variety of issues, which may affect daily living.

Where appropriate, the Support Worker can visit tenants in their own homes to discuss and identify problems and agree a way to resolve any issues. With consent, the Support Worker can contact and liaise with other agencies and departments.

Tenants are assured confidentiality at all times and help is on hand, until assistance is no longer required.

Services Provided

Based on individual needs, the Support Worker can assist with:

  • Finances, bills, budgeting
  • Claiming housing or welfare benefits
  • Filling in forms or making phone calls
  • Signposting to other agencies
  • Coping after the loss of a partner
  • Helping to move and set up home
  • Anti-social behaviour affecting a person’s tenancy

Who to contact

Agencies, such as Social Services can make a referral on behalf of tenants, or if the tenant is living in sheltered accommodation, the warden can make a referral.

Alternatively, if you or someone you know could benefit from this service, please contact:
