Housing

Accommodation Exchanges

Swindon Borough Council has over 7800 applicants on its housing register. With demand far outstripping supply, obtaining housing in Swindon is extremely difficult. For tenants of registered social landlords (other local authorities or housing associations usually) swapping your tenancy with another tenant is often the only way of moving around or into Swindon. In theory, a multiple exchange is possible and all applications will be considered within the council's current policies and existing legislation.

Registration Forms

If you wish to search for an exchange, you should be registered on the Council's exchange and transfer list. Registration forms can be obtained from:

Housing Department
Swindon Borough Council
Wat Tyler House East
Swindon
SN1 2JH

Tel: 01793 464309

The form is also available as a downloadable pdf file:

Transfer and Mutual Exchange Application Form.pdf

Completed forms should be returned, by post or by hand, to the address mentioned above.

Further information

For tenants who have already found an exchange partner and want to proceed, you can apply by completing a form specifically designed for this purpose; forms are available from the Housing Needs Team or can be downloaded as a pdf file:

Application for an Exchange.pdf

The Council has produced an information leaflet about exchanging, available as before and also as a pdf file:
