Keyworker Accommodation

Swindon Borough Council has nomination rights with housing associations who have accommodation for key-workers

These properties are to rent exclusively for key-workers. You will need to join the Housing Register waiting list to apply.

How long you will wait will depend on numbers currently on the list and vacancies that occur. All key-worker properties to rent are now advertised through the Swindon Home Bid website (www.swindonhomebid.org.uk) when they become available.

Sarsen Housing Association

New College, South Swindon

6 x 2-bedroom flats (second floor) no lift – for couples or families with one child only. Pets not allowed. Rent approximately £117 per week

4 x 2-bedroom houses for family with one child only. Rent approximately £128 per week.

Priory Vale, North Swindon

4 x 2-bedroom flats: ground and first floor – for couples or family with 1 child only

Second floor flat, no lift - couples. Pets not allowed. Rent approximately £96 per week

Paramount, Spring Gardens, Town Centre, Swindon

9 x 1-bedroom flats (all ground floor with study) – for single persons or couples. No parking available. Pets not allowed. Rent approximately £80 per week.

2 x 2-bedroom flats (ground floor with study) - for family with 1 child. Rent approx £90 per week

Bromford Housing Association

Wellington Street (Opposite the Railway Station)

47 x 1-bedroom flats (up to 4th floor). Lift available - for single or couples only (no families). Parking space not guaranteed with all flats. Pets not allowed.

For these flats rental costs range between £88 and £90 including service charge per week depending on the flat size.

Keyworker Policy

The definition of a key worker is shown below and forms part of Swindon Borough Councils allocations policy.

  1. Education – local authority teachers (higher priority given to those working within secondary and special needs schools).
  2. Health – nurses, doctors, therapy staff employed by local NHS organisations.
  3. Emergency services – police officers, fire officers, paramedics
  4. Social workers and occupational therapists employed by Swindon Borough Council
  5. Community workers – Swindon Borough Council employees and other statutory/voluntary agencies

Please note that priority is given to groups 1, 2, 3  and 4 (above); but, if no applicants are registered for housing in these groups, then group 5 will be considered. Also, those on lowest income may be considered first.

Interested parties must be in housing need and working in Swindon (not on a short-term employment contract but at least six months or more. (Proof of employment will be required.)

Owner occupiers do not qualify, and you must also have exceptional leave to enter or remain in the UK if you are from abroad.
