Council Tax Charges 2009-10

Please follow the links to the right for details of the Council Tax payable in 2009-10 for each area of the Borough of Swindon. Please note that differences in the Council Tax are a direct result of the different levels of spending by the parishes and the non-parished areas.

'Swindon Non-parished Area' refers to the households in central Swindon which are not covered by a parish or town council. Swindon Borough Council provides parish/town council services to these households.

Council Tax Percentage Increase

The average increase for Council Tax, in respect of budgets for which Swindon Borough Council has responsibility, is 3.5% for 2009-10.  This is made up of two elements:

  • An element for Swindon special expenses or non-parished area.  The amount due in respect of these charges has actually reduced this year.  For Swindon non-parished areas, this is shown as a 6.8% reduction:  -6.8%.  If you live in one of the parishes, the parish charges have changed by different amounts.
  • The element for services that covers the whole of the borough.  This has increased by 3.7%, and this is the amount shown on the front of the bill next to "Swindon Borough Council".

The average of these two elements across all properties is 3.5%.  Some residents will benefit from a lower increase, whilst others will have a higher percentage.

The Police Authority charge has increased by 5%.

The Fire Authority charge has increased by 4.9%.
