On this page: Information and guidance about disposing of hazardous clinical waste and how you can request a weekly collection service.
We provide a separate collection service for hazardous clinical wastes from households in the borough of Swindon.
Hazardous clinical wastes should not be disposed of in your wheelie bin or blue sack. 'Clinical waste' includes infectious materials, but does not include non-infectious materials such as colostomy bags from otherwise healthy persons.
Examples of infectious waste:
Dressings, bandages and swabs
Used syringes and hypodermic needles
Catheter and stoma bags
Feeding and drain tubes
Other waste from a client suffering from an infectious disease
Examples of non-infectious waste:
Incontenance pads
Sanitary ware
Nappies
Non-infectious waste can simply be put in your wheelie bin (or blue bags if you have a weekly collection) with your normal household waste.
Clinical Waste Collections
All clinical waste sacks are collected on a Wednesday - separate from the rest of your household waste.
Yellow sacks will be provided, and each time we collect your yellow sack we will replace it with another one.
How to Request the Service
Requests for a clinical waste collection are usually made via your doctor or other medical practitioner. But you can also request a clinical waste collection yourself - please contact us.
In such cases, we will arrange for one of our team to visit your home to undertake an assessment of your needs. If the assessment confirms that you need a clinical waste collection, you will be issued with yellow sacks for disposing of the waste.
Report a Missed Collection
Please use our online problem reporting facility to notify us of a missed clinical waste collection, or there are other ways to contact us.
