Residential Extensions and Alterations Supplementary Planning Document (SPD)

The adopted 'Residential Extensions and Alterations Supplementary Planning Document' (SPD) has been prepared to support Policies DS6: 'Standards of Design and Amenity' and H15: 'Residential Extensions' of the adopted Swindon Borough Local Plan 2011.

The purpose of this SPD is to provide detailed guidance to assist in achieving high quality development and protect amenity.

The SPD will be taken into account as a material consideration in the determination of 'householder' planning applications.

Inclusive Design Access for All Supplementary Planning Document (SPD)

The adopted 'Inclusive Design Access for All Supplementary Planning Document' (SPD) has been prepared to support Policy DS6: 'Standards of Design and Amenity' and Policy ENV8: 'Access for All' of the adopted Swindon Borough Local Plan 2011. 

The purpose of this SPD is to provide guidance to achieve high quality and inclusive design for all development, including individual buildings, public and private spaces. Access considerations within the SPD include Lifetime Neighbourhoods, Lifetime Homes, Wheelchair Accessible Housing, Street Design, Shared Surfaces and Access for All Design Principles.

The Design Guide covers all aspects of design focusing on specific types of development and specific areas. Its purpose is to ensure that the quality of design in the Borough is raised to reflect our Corporate aim of making Swindon an enjoyable place to live, work and play. It does this by providing clear criteria for assessing planning applications.

Shopfronts Coding Guidance

The Shopfronts Coding Guidance Note will be applied whenever planning consent is required for a new or amended shopfront. It provides detailed criteria against which proposals for shopfronts will be assessed, with the objective of improving the quality of shopfront design in the borough.
