Waste and Recycling

Service Details

Swindon Borough Council is responsible for the collection and disposal of waste and recycling materials. Our emphasis is to increase the amount of waste that is recycled in order to meet the challenge of dealing with an increase in disposable items while, at the same time, reducing the amounts of waste going to landfill.

In order to meet this challenge, Swindon has developed a Municipal Waste Management Strategy.

The individual council services relating to waste and recycling are listed below

Household Waste Collections
Collection of household waste by either fortnightly ‘wheelie bin’ collections or by the weekly collection of Swindon Borough Council blue waste sacks.

Recycling Collections
Collection of recyclable materials from your home, including green garden waste, mixed plastics (including plastic bottles), paper and card, glass, tins and cans, textiles, etc.

Waste Education
A Community educational programme for all community groups and schools to educate people to increase the level of recycling and, ultimately, improving the quality of life both now and for future generations.

Bulky Waste Collections, including Asbestos
A bulky waste collection service from your home for items such as unwanted furniture, refrigerators, freezers etc. This service also includes the collection of asbestos sheets.

Assisted Collections – ‘A Cards’
An assisted waste and refuse collection service available to people who are physically unable to transport their wheelie bin, blue sack or recycling to the front of their property.

Household Waste Recycling Centre
A drive-in facility for Swindon residents to dispose of household recyclable and waste materials.

Bring Sites
Local sites around and about the Borough of Swindon for residents to be able to dispose of recyclable materials such as glass, cans, paper, textiles, plastic bottles etc.

Clinical Waste
A home collection service, within the Borough of Swindon, of hazardous and infectious clinical waste materials.

Commercial Waste
Chargeable collection and disposal facilities for commercial and business waste within the Borough of Swindon.
