Dog Bins

Description of Service

Dog faeces are a potential hazard to health and dog owners are required to dispose of their dog’s faeces in an appropriate manner. This is a legal requirement imposed by the ‘Dogs (Fouling of Land) Act, 1996’. See also: Dog Fouling.

To facilitate this Swindon Borough Council provides bins for dog owners to be able to dispose of their dog’s faeces. These are provided in strategic positions around the Borough of Swindon in locations likely to be convenient for dog owners to use.

While we empty all dog bins on a scheduled regular basis, occasionally a bin will require become full before the normal emptying/collection time. If, therefore, you notice a dog bin that is full or overflowing, please report it to us.

Similarly, if you notice a dog bin has been damaged, or to request a bin in a new location, please contact us.

Service Levels

Bag collection and replacement is provided on a regular, scheduled basis. The frequency of collection varies between locations but is based on our experience of usage for individual dog bins. We will normally respond to reports of full bins within two days.

Repair or replacement of bins will depend on the nature/extent of damage and whether new components are needed from the manufacturers. For this reason it is not possible to be specific about the time it will take. Nevertheless, because of the implications to health, we aim to complete all work at the earliest possible time.
