Major Projects

Swindon has three main areas of present and proposed growth:

  1. Northern Development Area (NDA) - "Haydon 3 / Priory Vale"
  2. Wichelstowe, formerly the Southern Development Area (SDA) - "Front Garden"
  3. Swindon Gateway Development at Coate Water

NDA - "Haydon 3 / Priory Vale"

Haydon 3 is the final phase of the current town expansion to the north of Swindon. The entire Northern Development Area will comprise approximately 10,000 new homes including retail, health, education and leisure facilities.

For more information please visit the house builder consortium website at www.prioryvale.net

Wichelstowe - the new name for the Southern Development Area - "The Front Garden"

Work has begun on developing Wichelstowe - the new name for the Southern Development Area in Swindon. The project is a joint initiative between Swindon Borough Council and Taylor Woodrow and will help meet Government targets for new housing in the area. This development is likely to comprise 4,500 new homes, retail, health, education and leisure facilities.

For more information about Wichelstow including the illustrative masterplan, please visit www.wichelstowe.co.uk

Swindon Gateway at Coate Water

The area around Coate Water is currently the subject of an appeal by the Swindon Gateway Partnership. The Partnership have appealed for the failure of Swindon Borough Council to determine their Planning Applications for a proposed town expansion including a University Campus.

A Public Inquiry is to be held on 10th February 2009 at the Marriott Hotel, Pipers Way, Swindon and is envisaged to last for 5 weeks. For further information regarding the Inquiry please contact Ian Halsall on (01793) 466156 or alternatively Debbie Smith at the Planning Inspectorate on (0117) 3728607.
