What We Do

The Enforcement Team investigates alleged breaches of planning control including:

• suspected Breach of Condition
• unapproved works to a listed building
• non compliance with plans or conditions
• unauthorised changes of use or development
• unlawful display of advertisements
• untidy sites considered detrimental to local amenity

We receive about 750 allegations each year relating to breaches of planning control. A proportion of these are considered, after investigation, not to be a planning issue.

The majority of the remaining cases are solved without the need to take formal action. Regrettably, in a few extreme cases, legal action is pursued to secure compliance.
