Forward Planning Group

The Planning Department is responsible for the preparation, implementation and review of the Development Plans and planning policies for Swindon and working with other organisations to this end. In Swindon Borough the Development Plan consists of:

The Borough Council works jointly with Wiltshire Council on the preparation of minerals and waste planning policy documents.

Under revised planning regulations the Swindon Borough Local Plan will be replaced by the Swindon Borough Local Development Framework consisting of:

The Planning department also assists the South West Regional Assembly in the preparation of the Regional Spatial Strategy (RSS).  The current RSS was published by the Government Office for the South West in 2001 as RPG10, and contains policies up to 2016. RSS is being reviewed to carry it forward to 2026.

Inclusive Design Access for All Supplementary Planning Document (SPD)

A draft Inclusive Design Access for All SPD has been prepared to support Principle 8 of the Design and Sustainability Policy (DMP1) as detailed within the Swindon Borough Core Strategy.

A consultation period on the draft Inclusive Design Access for All SPD commencesd on Monday 18th January 2010 for a six-week period, ending on Monday 1st March 2010. Comments or representations on the SPD should be submitted to the Council within the above time period.
