Landscape

The Landscape Section of Swindon Borough Council comprises five chartered landscape architects, all members of the Landscape Institute (http://www.landscapeinstitute.org/), under the leadership of David Evans, Landscape Officer, who may be contacted by telephone on 01793 466311 or e-mail him at devans@swindon.gov.uk.

The section is particularly concerned with the conservation, creation and promotion of high quality landscape design within the borough. The section works in close contact with Swindon Services on issues of parks, recreation and sport, open spaces and adoption of amenity spaces.

The following pages are intended to give you some idea of the range of work undertaken by the section.

The principal areas of work of the section are:

  • Providing full consultant landscape design service to other council departments, parish councils and the Great  Western Community Forest (www.forestweb.org.uk)
  • Collaboration with:
    - Development control planners on the landscape implications of planning applications that are received by the council
    - Design, conservation and development group in assessing masterplans for the major development areas within the borough
    - Strategic planners in preparing policy for the forward planning
  • Preparing and administering applications to external agencies for project funding
