Personal Search of the Local Land Charges Register

What is a Personal Search of the Local Land Charges Register?

A personal search is the inspection of the Local Land Charges Register by a personal searcher or a member of the public.

  • The Local Land Charges Register will be presented in a legible form from which the personal searcher is responsible for making their own notes.
  • Local Land Charges staff produce the information revealed as a result of a personal search of the Local Land Charges register. To the best of their knowledge this information is believed to be accurate, however any person requesting a search cannot hold the Local Land Charges staff responsible for any interpretation of the register.
  • The information resulting from a personal search remains the property of Swindon Borough Council, and should not be removed, photocopied or scanned.
  • If a query arises whilst inspecting the Local Land Charges register, the personal searcher should complete the query form, included at the front of the personal search folder, and bring it to the attention of the Local Land Charges staff, by telephoning 01793 466359. Local Land Charges will contact the personal searcher by telephone or e-mail within 24 hours of the query being raised.
  • Once the Local Land Charges register has been inspected, the personal search has been concluded.
  • All paperwork is destroyed on conclusion of the search on the day of business. Any query arising after the day of the search will be subject to the personal search fee being charged for another personal search which will be booked in again.
  • The personal searcher is entitled to inspect other public registers maintained by the Local Authority. Please contact the department responsible for holding the relevant register.

When Can I do a Personal Search?

Between 2.00pm and 4.00pm Monday to Friday by pre-arranged appointments only.

Bookings

Please e-mail landcharges@swindon.gov.uk or telephone 01793 466359.

Due to a high demand for personal searches, an appointment will be made on a 'first come, first served' basis at the time of the booking.

On booking your appointment, a plan must be e-mailed (in PDF format) or faxed straight away to confirm the address and details of the search.

Fax: 01793 466458.

If a plan is not received, the personal search will not be carried out.

Payment

£11 statutory fee for the inspection of the Local Land Charges Register.

(Please note that each additional parcel is £1.00.)

Fees are payable by cheque, credit card or cash at Customer Services on the ground floor of Premier House, prior to inspection of the Local Land Charges Register.

Good Practice

Swindon Borough Council is moving forward to working in accordance with the Good Practice Guidance for local authorities and personal searchers published in January 2008.
