Main Projects Under Way

Peatmoor Primary School

This new 210-place primary school includes some community provision with additional meeting rooms and shared use of some school facilities. Security was a major design consideration factor, with the school grounds enclosed by fencing with gates which open at the beginning and end of the school day to allow direct access from playground to classrooms. At other times the only access to the school is from the reception area through doors controlled by the reception staff.

Abbey Meads Primary School

The first new primary school in Swindon’s Northern Sector Development opened in September 1999. As well as providing 210 school places, the building incorporates a community centre with enhanced reception area, changing rooms and three meeting rooms. The school hall and kitchen can also be used for community use outside normal school hours.

Catherine Wayte Primary School

Opened in September 2000, this school provides 240 places in two classroom wings around a central hall and shared areas. A key feature of the design is a small enclosed courtyard which brings natural daylight into the centre of the building as well as providing an ancillary outdoor seating space. Within the school grounds there is a playing field, netball court and wildlife area.
